Borage

Borage is growing wild in Bodenham's river meadows. According to Dioscorides, borage can 'cheer the heart and lift the depressed spirits', while Gerard wrote that its flowers were used in salads 'to exhilarate and make the minde glad'.

I think some has self seeded in the Veg plot and intend to try it out tonight...

I have a very old edition of 'robinsons family herbal' it says that the flowers of borage candied or made into a preserve are useful to those who are subject to swoonings!

I must post a pix later.

the flowers are very pretty floating on a nice glass of gin and tonic, and they start to turn pink when they hit the alcohol....much like myself!
