A Scurry of Squirrels

I think the collective noun for a group of squirrels is a scurry. There was definitely a large scurry underneath the sweet chestnut tree this weekend and almost no nut was left untouched.

I was therefore pleased to see that Wikipedia cites the Dachsund as the squirrel hunting hound of choice. Armed with one small sausage dog, we could wipe out the squirrel competition and feast on the nuts ourselves next year.

Spouse loathes this noble hound and has threatened divorce if I come home with one. I feel the need for a survey...

A Dachsund is a dog designed by a commitee.

A wiry Jack Russell Terrier might be a more acceptable option.

And they just loathe squirrels.

Why not eat them? Hugh F-W has several good recipes. He spoke last year at Sheffield's Off the Shelf literary festival and the following day Tufty was nowhere to be seen.

Sausage dogs are indeed Kings of hounds, you should get a draft excluder sausage dog and see what spouce says to that....

Have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier myself, and from experience suspect that chasing squirrels would be a fine past time for a staffie ... basically if it runs away, Jack'll try and catch it!

You don't need a survey, you need a saucepan.
